Pentagon’s top general to visit Gaza monitoring center in Israel

WASHINGTON — The Trump administration plans to send Washington's top military officer to Israel to meet with officials coordinating a US-led postwar effort to stabilize Gaza, Israeli and US officials confirmed to Al-Monitor.
US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine is set to travel to Israel later this week or early next week, sources familiar with the matter said. He is expected to meet with officials involved in a newly set-up multinational coordination center designed by US Central Command to monitor the Gaza ceasefire and manage logistical aid and reconstruction efforts.
The Air Force four-star general is set to visit the Civil-Military Coordination Center, which was set up by CENTCOM personnel at Kiryat Gat, just northeast of Israel’s fortified border with the Gaza Strip.
The center became operational Oct. 17, US CENTCOM announced last week.
Israeli, French, Spanish, Canadian, British, Greek and Cypriot military personnel have begun working at the site alongside roughly 200 American military personnel specializing in logistics, engineering and security-building.
