Grappling with Western sanctions, Iran, Belarus strengthen military ties
Defense-related cooperation between Iran and Belarus has accelerated considerably in recent years, particularly after Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko’s trip to Tehran in 2023.
Iran hosted a senior Belarusian military industry official for talks on Thursday, reflecting Tehran’s growing defense ties with Belarus amid shared interests in Western sanctions, the war in Ukraine and close relations with Russia.
Chairman of Belarus’ State Committee for Military Industry Dmitry Pantus met Iranian Defense Minister Brig. Gen. Aziz Nasirzade in Tehran to discuss ways to boost defense, industrial and technical relations between the two countries. Nasirzade “expressed satisfaction with the growing trend of relations between Tehran and Minsk,” the official Islamic Republic News Agency reported.

Pantus said Belarus wants to work with Iran on research and development, the production of defense equipment and the exchange of industrial expertise, according to the IRNA.
