Israeli Druze breach Syria border, call for 'day of rage' over Suwayda clashes

The Israeli Druze leadership announced a one-day labor strike on Wednesday and called on all Israeli Druze to go to the border and cross it in order to assist their Syrian brethren in Suwayda.

Hundreds of Israeli Druze breached the border fence and crossed into Syria in a demonstration of solidarity with their Syrian brethren, as the Israeli Druze leadership intensified its public campaign on Wednesday, urging the government to intervene in Syria to protect the Druze community amid ongoing sectarian clashes there.

In response to the cross-border raid where the border fence was breached, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, "My fellow Druze citizens of Israel, the situation in Suwayda, the situation in southwestern Syria, is very serious." He added, "We are working to save our Druze brothers and eliminate the regime's gangs. And now I have one request from you: You are citizens of Israel. Do not cross the border."

Earlier on Wednesday, the Israeli military bombed Syrian army headquarters near Damascus and Syrian military assets, including armored vehicles headed for the Suwayda area.
