US, Iran may punt on enrichment issue to keep talks alive

The interim deal under discussion would kick the can down the road on the thorny issue of Iran's uranium enrichment capabilities.

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump said the United States is close to a “solution” over Iran’s nuclear program, the latest signal that the two sides are nearing an interim agreement.  

“We’re having very good discussions,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on Wednesday, adding that he warned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu against taking military action on Iran.  

“I told [Netanyahu] this would be inappropriate to do right now because we’re very close to a solution,” Trump said.
