Saudi Arabia would 'welcome the chance' to host Trump-Putin summit
Trump and Putin are expected to hold a phone call soon, and Gulf leaders are angling for a mediation role between the two.
DUBAI — Saudi Arabia welcomes the opportunity to host a summit for US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, an adviser to the Saudi Royal Court told Al-Monitor.
A report by Reuters citing Russian sources on Monday said that Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are possible venues for a Trump-Putin summit. During his campaign, the newly elected US president vowed to end the war in Ukraine within 24 hours of taking his oath of office.
Saudi and UAE sources told Al-Monitor that rumors of the proposed meeting had been floating around since Trump was sworn in for his second term in office.
"Saudi Arabia would welcome the chance" to host the summit, the Saudi source told Al-Monitor on condition of anonymity.
