TEHRAN — Iran has ruled out direct negotiations with the United States, with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi declaring that as long as Washington's "maximum pressure" campaign remains in place, talks are off the table.

Araghchi made the remarks standing next to his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, at a televised press conference in Tehran on Tuesday.

"Tehran's position on nuclear negotiations is clear," the Iranian minister stated. "We will not negotiate under pressure, threats and sanctions."

He echoed an earlier stance by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who declared that negotiations with US President Donald Trump's administration "would not be wise and honorable."
