TEHRAN — Iran has recently been engaged in a frenzy of diplomatic activity, calling for united action from regional and Islamic countries to counter US President Donald Trump's plans to relocate Gaza's population.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has held a series of phone calls with his counterparts from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Turkey, Pakistan, Malaysia and Gambia to underscore the urgency of a collective response.

According to official readouts released by Iran's Foreign Ministry, Araghchi told the regional top diplomats that Trump's proposal posed an "existential threat" to the Palestinian cause.

When speaking with his Saudi counterpart, Faisal bin Farhan, the Iranian minister condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's suggestion that Saudi land could be used to host Palestinians, calling it an act of "unprecedented criminality" and a menace to regional stability.
