In reshuffle, Qatar emir replaces 6 ministers, intel chief: What we know
The Qatari emir issued a series of orders, replacing ministers and appointing new heads of some top agencies in the country, including the State Security, which has been involved in the indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas.
Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani ordered on Tuesday a cabinet reshuffle that saw the appointment of six new ministers. He also made some replacements in top agencies in the country.
One of the major changes in the cabinet was the appointment of Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani as deputy prime minister and minister of state for defense affairs, the official Qatar News Agency reported.
Sheikh Saud had been the head of the Amiri Diwan of the State of Qatar — the administrative office of the emir — since October 2020 and served as secretary-general of the Qatar Olympic Committee from 2002 until 2015.
The emir also named Sheikh Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal Al Thani, who is chief of the Asia-Pacific & Africa Investments at the Qatar Investment Authority and chairman of telecoms group Ooredoo, as the new minister of commerce and industry. It remains unclear if Sheikh Faisal will remain in these positions.
