Israeli military chief Halevi hints he’ll resign after Oct. 7 probe
Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi has hinted that after the investigation into Hamas' attack on southern Israel, he intends to resign over the army's failures that day.
Israeli military chief of staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi hinted Friday that he intends to resign his post after the military completes its investigation into the Hamas incursion into southern Israel on Oct. 7.
In a letter to the troops, Halevi wrote, "At the end of the investigations, we will also make personal decisions, and commanders will exercise responsibility, from me down. I have no intention of passing over personal decisions when the picture becomes clearer to us."
He further remarked, "As chief of staff, I am the one who defines the complexity of the tasks, who sends you to the battlefield. It is my responsibility and duty to ensure that the Israeli military continues to win, provide security, and fulfill its missions, and as such, it is also my responsibility to appoint and develop you for the next roles.
"Investigating the events of October 7 is an integral part of the process," he stated, adding that it was "being done with great seriousness and deep pain, primarily to improve and learn."
