BEIRUT — During his visit to Beirut this week, US special envoy to the Middle East Amos Hochstein carried with him a new proposal aimed at ending the war between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon, according to local reports.

The Lebanese Al-Akhbar newspaper, aligned with Hezbollah, revealed Tuesday details of the proposal, which includes several amendments to UN Resolution 1701 that ended the 2006 war between Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah.

Hochstein presented the document outlining an amended version of the resolution to caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, and to parliament speaker Nabih Berri who is negotiating on behalf of Hezbollah, during separate meetings on Monday, Arab diplomatic sources told Al-Akhbar.
