China, Russia, UAE make strong showing at Egypt International Airshow

China sent military aircraft to fly over the pyramids ahead of the event, which followed a joint naval exercise between Egypt and the People’s Republic.

The Egypt International Airshow kicked off on Tuesday with dozens of Chinese, Russian and other foreign companies participating.

The show is being held at the El Alamain International Airport near the Mediterranean coast and will run until Thursday. The airshow, which describes itself as “the gateway to aerospace in Africa and the Middle East,” includes exhibitions from defense, space and commercial aircraft firms as well as a conference, according to the official website.

There are 50 Egyptian entities participating. The United States had the largest cohort of foreign exhibitors with 21. The United Arab Emirates was second with 18, Russia was third with 15 and China fourth with 10.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi attended the first day of the airshow on Tuesday, Al-Ahram reported.
