Jerusalem attack

Two people were killed and four others injured in a shooting near the city of Kiryat Malachi, in southern Israel, midday Friday. A nearby civilian then shot and killed the assailant.

According to testimonies, the assailant drove his car to a crowded bus station on highway 40, got out of the vehicle, and started shooting. The area was full of people shopping before the beginning of the Sabbath.

One person was shot and killed instantly. The other victim was taken to a nearby hospital in serious condition and died there.

In the attacker's car, police found an ID card belonging to a resident of the Shuafat neighborhood, in East Jerusalem, but have not confirmed whether the assailant is indeed the same person. Most of the Palestinian population of Jerusalem live in the eastern part of the city. Police have closed the area and are conducting an investigation along with military forces.
