On a one-day visit to Nicosia, Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen met with his Cypriot counterpart, Constantinos Kombos, to discuss a maritime corridor that would enable the transfer of humanitarian aid from a port in Cyprus to the Gaza Strip.

The two ministers visited the Zenon search-and-rescue center and the Larnaka port, which would serve as the security check and departure point for humanitarian aid to Gaza.

"Cyprus and Israel, together with other partners in the region, are promoting the initiative for a secure maritime corridor to facilitate the transfer of humanitarian assistance to Gaza in an organized and well-inspected manner," Cohen said in a joint press conference with Kombos.

Cohen went on, "Today's visit will focus on the ongoing discussion between the interagency teams of both our countries in efforts to coordinate the details required." The Israeli minister further noted, "Our aim is to have all the details agreed upon as soon as possible. We want to create a fast track for humanitarian aid shipping to Gaza via this corridor."
