WASHINGTON — A growing number of Senate Democrats are voicing concern over how Israel is using US military aid to fight Hamas, underscoring a divide within the party over how the United States should respond to Israel’s deadly bombardment of the Gaza Strip.

Washington needs “to find a better path toward helping Israel,” Sens. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) and Jack Reed (D-R.I.) said in a statement Wednesday.

“US assistance has never come in the form of a blank check — regardless of the recipient,” the senators wrote.
