Lebanon’s renowned author and journalist Giselle Khoury died on Sunday at her home in Beirut following a two-year battle with cancer.

Khoury, 62, was one of the Arab world’s most prominent TV anchors, with a career that started in 1986 at the Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation. Her independence, calm demeanor in interviews and mix of cultural and political reporting propelled her to MBC TV, Al-Arabiya channel and then to Sky News Arabia.

Her love and devotion for the city stood out in her last recent interview with journalist Riccardo Karam, where she tears up speaking about Beirut and its people. “Beirut is different from the whole region. … Beirut was made by so many, and not just the Lebanese,” she says.
