UAE, Qatar to reopen embassies within weeks

UAE-Qatar embassies are expected to reopen with new ambassadors in their posts within weeks or by mid-June latest, according to Reuters sources.
Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani (R) meets with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Doha, Qatar, Dec. 5, 2022.

DUBAI — Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are in the process of restoring diplomatic ties and reopening embassies, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing government officials from both sides.

This comes more than two years after Arab states including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the UAE and Bahrain ended a boycott of Qatar. In 2017, these states had severed ties with Qatar over allegations that it supported terrorism and purported ties to Iran. Doha denied these accusations.
