Syrian foreign minister makes surprise visit to Saudi Arabia

Syria and Saudi Arabia said they took steps towards resuming consular services and flights between their countries following Faisal Mekdad's first visit since the start of the civil war.

Syria's Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad visited Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, marking another milestone for the country's reintegration into the Arab world.

Mekdad was invited to the kingdom by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan. They discussed bilateral relations and other areas of mutual interest, Syria's official SANA news outlet reported.
