Next British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's views on Middle East

The Conservative statesman has expressed fairly mainstream views on Israel, Iran and other regional issues.

Rishi Sunak is set to become the next prime minister of the United Kingdom after a rival candidate dropped out of the race, the BBC reported today. The former minister and member of the Conservative party will be the first British prime minister of Asian descent and is expected take office within days.

The soon-to-be prime minister has expressed some notable views on the Middle East. Here is a breakdown of some his positions:

Israel

Like others in the Conservative party, Sunak is a strong supporter of UK-Israel ties. He told the Conservative Friends of Israel parliamentary group earlier this year he views Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, according to The Jewish Chronicle in London. He also denounced the characterization of Israel as an apartheid state in an interview with the outlet.
