UN slashes food aid to Yemen amid funding crunch

Starting in January, eight million Yemenis will receive a reduced food ration from the UN's World Food Program.

As a hunger catastrophe looms in Yemen, the United Nations said Wednesday that it will cut food assistance to the war-torn country next month due to a severe funding shortfall. 

Beginning in January, the World Food Program will provide a reduced food ration to eight million people in Yemen. The five million additional Yemenis considered at immediate risk of slipping into famine condition will continue to receive their full assistance.
