Iran strikes gold at Paralympics

Iranian athletes are currently atop the Middle East in medals won at the international sporting competition for disabled athletes, and one could soon make history in women's archery.

Iran is winning medals at the Paralympics. Amir Khosravani won gold on Monday in the men’s long jump at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. Khosravani jumped 7.21 meters (23.66 feet) in the event, which consists of athletes running and then jumping forward into a sandpit, according to the semi-official Tasnim News Agency.

The Paralympics occur alongside the Olympic Games and are for athletes with disabilities. As of Sunday, Iran led Middle Eastern states with 11 medals, followed by Israel with seven and Jordan with four. Overall, Iran ranked 12th in medal count. China was on top with 119 medals.
