Israel’s new envoy Gilad Erdan slammed the United Nations yesterday for adopting a series of anti-Israeli resolutions. The Fourth Committee of the UN General Assembly, which is dedicated to political and decolonialization affairs, voted yesterday with overwhelming majorities in favor of seven resolutions critical of Israel. On the agenda were assistance to Palestinian refugees, Israeli settlements in the occupied territories (including east Jerusalem and the Golan Heights) and Israeli practices impacting the human rights of the Palestinian populations. The resolutions lambasted Israel for alleged human rights violations against Palestinians in the West Bank, Gaza and east Jerusalem and repressive measures against Syrians in the Golan Heights.

The seven resolutions have been passed each year for several years, more or less with the same wording. The resolutions are expected to be approved by the UN General Assembly later this month. The United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Sudan — which recently agreed to normalize ties with Israel — did not shift from their traditional voting patterns and supported all seven resolutions.

Ahead of the committee’s session, Erdan tweeted, "The UN is about to vote on the annual 'Palestinian package' of resolutions. I will not allow this anti-Israel vote to go uncontested. Watch as I call out the hypocrisies & lies of these resolutions, and the damage done by the countries that support them!"

Speaking at the session, Erdan said, “What is the point of these resolutions? Just to pave the way for future resolutions? By supporting these resolutions, you are not only wasting UN resources, you are also sabotaging any chances of future peace.”
