The number of coronavirus cases in Oman passed 100,000 on Sunday, health officials said just a day before the government opened a new field hospital to cope with the surge in infections.

The Health Ministry registered another 544 coronavirus cases and eight deaths on Monday, raising the total to 101,814 cases and 985 deaths since late February. As the ministry announced the latest case count, a 312-bed field hospital at the old airport in Muscat was opened to treat the influx of patients.
