New US aircraft carrier heads to Middle East as Iran war stretches on

WASHINGTON — The US Navy has dispatched another aircraft carrier to support combat operations in the Middle East as Washington’s war with Iran shows no sign of ending.
The USS Theodore Roosevelt departed its home port of San Diego on Sunday, the San Diego Union-Tribune first reported and a US official confirmed to Al-Monitor.
The Nimitz-class carrier is expected to be the fifth flattop in the US Navy’s fleet to support the war with Iran. The stalemated conflict entered its seventh month on Monday with no diplomatic breakthrough in sight.
The Roosevelt spent much of the summer participating in the multinational RIMPAC 2026 exercise off Hawaii, meaning its pre-deployment preparations at sea are already complete.
