Katz warns PA against 'Oct. 7-style' attack as West Bank violence rises
After a West Bank stabbing of an Israeli settler, Defense Minister Israel Katz warns the Palestinian Authority against launching an “Oct. 7-style” assault.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said Monday that he had instructed the military to target senior Palestinian Authority officials if Israel determines that the PA is planning an “Oct. 7-style” attack against Israeli soldiers or Jewish settlements in the West Bank.
What happened: Katz issued the warning after a Palestinian assailant stabbed an Israeli settler at the Maoz Yehuda outpost near the village of Qusra in the northern West Bank on Monday morning. The military said it later located and killed the assailant, who had fled the scene and allegedly attempted to attack soldiers.
The incident came a day after an Israeli settler raid on the Palestinian village of Hajja near Qalqilya. The Palestinian Health Ministry said Omar al-Tubasi, 20, was shot and killed by settlers who entered the village. Two other Palestinians were injured.
The Israeli military said settlers had entered Hajja to recover a drone that had been brought down by Palestinians who threw rocks at it. Israeli troops who arrived at the scene were also targeted with stones and responded with live fire, the military said, adding that the incident was under investigation.
