Who is Bill Pulte, Trump loyalist tapped as intelligence director?
The US president announced he had picked the fed housing chair to lead the nation’s intelligence agencies, at least temporarily, after the resignation of Tulsi Gabbard.
WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump on Tuesday announced he had picked the head of the US government’s mortgage regulation agency to be the next acting US director of national intelligence.
Bill Pulte, 37, who, since being appointed by Trump to lead the Federal Housing Finance Agency last year, took over the boards of both Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, will retain those roles while serving as acting director of national intelligence, Trump said in a Truth Social post on Tuesday.
He has “deep experience managing the most sensitive matters in America, the safety and soundness of the Markets, and over 10 Trillion Dollars at Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac,” Trump wrote in the post.
Why it matters: The selection of Pulte has raised fresh concerns that the president is attempting to mix political loyalty with the traditionally nonpartisan role of overseeing Washington’s 18 intelligence agencies.
