Lebanon cancels national high school exams due to war: What to know
Lebanon has canceled its national exams for the year due to the war and ongoing hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, following weeks of pressure on the Education Ministry.
BEIRUT — Lebanon’s government canceled the country’s high school graduation exams for the 2025-2026 academic year on Thursday, following weeks of pressure to call off the tests in light of the Israeli military campaign in the country.
What happened: Education Minister Rima Karami made the announcement during a press conference following a cabinet meeting at the presidential palace on Thursday.
She said the official examinations for the Baccalaureate Certificate of Secondary Education — Lebanon’s national high school graduation exams — and the Technical Baccalaureate, for students in vocational and technical education tracks, have been canceled due to the security situation in Lebanon.
Karami said students will receive a certificate of completion for secondary studies from their schools based on their grades.
