Settler violence spike exposes Israeli government rift with military
Knesset member Ram Ben-Barak of centrist Yesh Atid told Al-Monitor that the government must permit the use of administrative detention for extremist settlers to curb the violence.
The Israeli political opposition is warning of a dramatic increase in settler violence against Palestinians in the West Bank as the country’s attention is on the joint military campaign with the United States against Iran.
Ram Ben Barak, a Knesset member from the centrist Yesh Atid party, told Al-Monitor, "The two administrations are closely coordinated on Iran, but the White House must continue pressuring the Netanyahu government on battling Jewish extremists’ attacks on Palestinians."
Settler violence has returned to the center of domestic debate in recent weeks, following a series of attacks by far-right Israeli settlers against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.
