MBZ hosts Sisi as Saudi Arabia and UAE jockey for regional influence
Economic ties between Egypt and the UAE are strengthening thanks to large Emirati investments in the North African country.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi visited Abu Dhabi on Monday, meeting with his Emirati counterpart, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, as part of an effort by the United Arab Emirates to deepen ties with Cairo amid growing regional tensions.
What happened: The talks focused on bilateral relations as well as the ceasefire in Gaza. The leaders also toured the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, where Sisi was briefed on the institution’s work in AI and other advanced technologies. Sisi returned to Cairo later Monday, the official Emirates News Agency reported.

During a lunch between the two leaders, Sisi “emphasized Egypt’s openness to further Emirati investments,” the Egyptian State Information Service said in a statement.
Sisi last visited the UAE in June 2025 and likewise held talks with Sheikh Mohammed at the time.
