Iranian authorities sacked the director of a local television network on Wednesday after one of its reporters said “Death to Khamenei” in an apparent on-air blunder as Iran reels from a violent crackdown on anti-regime protesters.

Iran’s state broadcaster said in a statement on Wednesday that the broadcast director of the Hamoon TV station, who was not named, was dismissed from his position following what it described as an “error” that occurred live on television.

Several other employees of the station, which broadcasts in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchistan, were also referred to a disciplinary committee for their alleged role in the incident, according to IRIB.

“This decision has been made in order to maintain professional discipline, protect the reputation of the media and prevent the recurrence of similar cases,” IRIB added.
