Shortly after President Donald Trump sternly warned Israel on Monday against taking actions that could disrupt Syria’s political transition, the Israeli premier's office said that Trump invited Netanyahu to a meeting in the White House in the "near future."

In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “It is very important that Israel maintain a strong and true dialogue with Syria, and that nothing takes place that will interfere with Syria’s evolution into a prosperous State.” Trump added that the United States has worked “within our power” to support Syria’s rebuilding and lauded new President Ahmed al-Sharaa for working to ensure "good things happen" in his country. 

After Trump made his post Monday, he and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke on the phone. A statement issued by the Israeli premier’s office read that Trump invited Netanyahu to a meeting at the White House without providing a time frame and that the two leaders discussed Hamas' disarmament in Gaza and the expansion of the Abraham Accords.

When asked about normalization with Israel in an interview with Fox News during his trip to Washington last month, Sharaa ruled out immediate, direct talks but said that "maybe the United States' administration, with President Trump, will help us reach this kind of negotiation."
