Iran’s judiciary chief ordered a crackdown Monday on women who do not wear the hijab, in response to increasing defiance of the law.
Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, Iran's chief justice, told prosecutors to take action against what he called “social abnormalities,” specifically “nakedness and unveiling,” local media reported.
Ejei said that intelligence, legal and security officials have stepped up coordination on the issue.
Women face fines and prison terms for failing to cover their heads under the current law.
