Hamas targets opponents in violent bid to rebuild authority in Gaza

Hamas is targeting what it describes as Israel collaborators and outlaws as part of a display of power following the ceasefire.

A Hamas-run police force announced more executions and security raids targeting alleged Israeli collaborators and others it deems outlaws in Gaza on Tuesday, part of a display of power following the ceasefire and hostage-release deal. 

The violent crackdown on rivals and alleged collaborators could threaten stability in the war-torn territory and has elicited some condemnation from the group’s rivals in the Palestinian Authority. 

Hamas crackdown 

The so-called Sahm ("Arrow") unit — a police force of the Hamas-run government in Gaza — announced the operations in a series of posts on Telegram on Tuesday. The unit said they executed an unspecified number of “collaborators” in northern Gaza’s Shujaiyah neighborhood, adding that they clashed with various militias throughout the Palestinian territory.
