Algeria inaugurated a Confucius Institute this week, marking a major milestone in cultural and academic cooperation with China that expands Algerians' opportunity to discover Chinese language and culture.

Algerian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Kamel Baddari represented the government at the ceremony opening the institute at the University of Algiers II on Tuesday. Others in attendance included China’s ambassador to Algeria, Dong Guangli; president of the Algerian-Chinese Friendship Association, Smaïl Debeche; rector of the University of Algiers II, Said Rahmani; and representatives of academic institutions from both countries.

In a speech during the ceremony, Baddari described the establishment of the institute as “a pivotal initiative that will further strengthen partnerships between Algerian and Chinese universities, foster academic exchanges, and embody the robust bonds that unite Algeria and China in technology transfer and the valorization of scientific research.” He hailed the move as a testament to “the openness of Algerian universities to their international environment.”

Likewise, Ambassador Dong praised the “highly symbolic” initiative as reflecting deepening relations between Algeria and China.
