Banks, government offices and schools across Iran will close on Wednesday due to scorching temperatures, the latest sign of the worsening energy crunch and water crisis in the country.
What we know: Tasnim, Iran’s semi-official media outlet, reported on Tuesday that public institutions will be closed on Wednesday due to high temperatures and concerns over energy and water shortages. Mehr reported that public entities will close in the northeast Golestan province, while the Iranian Labor News Agency noted similar closures in the northwest province of Markazi.
The closures followed directions from the Ministry of Energy to manage energy and water consumption, according to Tasnim.
Temperatures in Tehran reached 105 degrees Fahrenheit (40.5 degrees Celsius) on Tuesday, and a high of 102 degrees Fahrenheit (38.9 degrees Celsius) is expected on Wednesday, according to AccuWeather.
