Netanyahu looks to Trump for Gaza ultimatum to leverage against far right

The ultimatum, to counter far-right threats to bring down the government if a ceasefire is reached with Hamas, is one of several items on the wish list he's taking to Washington.

TEL AVIV — US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will meet in Washington on July 7 to celebrate what they view as their joint victory over Iran.

"They will celebrate as only the two of them know how to do," a senior diplomatic source close to Netanyahu told Al-Monitor, speaking on condition of anonymity, ahead of the prime minister's visit to the White House, his third this year.

According to the source, Netanyahu will also arrive with a wish list. Among the items on it are carte blanche to strike Iran under certain circumstances; rapprochement with Turkey under Trump’s aegis and peace deals with Arab countries, Syria potentially among them; and a formula enabling him to end the war in Gaza.
