US, Qatar's $243.5B deal includes sale of up to 210 Boeing jets: What to know

The United States and Qatar inked economic deals worth more than $243.5 billion, laying the groundwork for a bigger $1.2 trillion package of expanded investment and trade, the White House said.

US President Donald Trump and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim Al Thani announced a new bilateral agreement worth $243.5 billion, including a $96 billion deal for Qatar Airways to buy up to 210 Boeing jets, the White House said Wednesday.

The agreement, announced during Trump's visit to Doha, would generate additional economic exchange totaling $1.2 trillion, the White House said. 

Boeing and GE Aerospace secured the order for Qatar Airways to acquire up to 210 Boeing 787 Dreamliner and 777X aircraft powered by GE Aerospace engines. The White House said it was Boeing’s largest-ever wide-body order and 787 order, adding that the agreement will support 154,000 US jobs annually. 

The sale to to the Qatari airline would include up to two GE Aerospace engines per plane, according to a White House fact sheet.
