Sudan on Tuesday declared the United Arab Emirates an “aggressor state” and severed diplomatic relations, citing Emirati support for the rival paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the country's two-year-long civil war.

Sudan’s Security and Defense Council released a statement Tuesday announcing the cutting of its relations with the UAE.

The council called the UAE an “aggressor state” and said it will withdraw its embassy and consulate general from the Gulf country.

According to the council, the decision is a result of the “crime of aggression against Sudan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the security of its citizens by the United Arab Emirates and through its local agent, the terrorist, rebellious Rapid Support Forces militia.”
