WASHINGTON — Last week, a number of President Donald Trump’s national security and foreign policy cabinet picks appeared before the Senate. Secretary of State Marco Rubio was confirmed this Monday, while other key members await votes for their confirmation or face delays.
Confirmed cabinet picks
Secretary of State Marco Rubio is the only high-level cabinet pick confirmed so far. Rubio was unanimously approved by the Senate on Monday, just hours after Trump’s inauguration. His 99-0 confirmation in the Senate followed a unanimous advancement by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on the same day by a vote of 22-0.
The new top diplomat delivered his first speech on Tuesday to the State Department, where he thanked Trump and said of his approach, “Everything we do must be justified by the answer to one of three questions: Does it make us stronger, does it make us safer and does it make us more prosperous? If it doesn’t do one of those three things, we will not do it.”
