Qatar’s prime minister visited Syria on Thursday for the first time since the fall of President Bashar al-Assad, meeting with the country’s leaders to discuss Doha’s support and regional developments.

Sheikh Mohammed, who is also foreign minister of the Gulf state, led the Qatari delegation. He praised Syria’s transitional authorities at a press conference with Sharaa, saying, “We welcome the positive steps taken by the new Syrian administration to maintain civilian safety, stabilize state institutions and ensure the continuity of public services.”
Syria’s transitional authority is led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, an Islamist group headed by Sharaa. HTS led the rebel offensive that toppled Assad and seized control of the country in December.
