DOHA — The success of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas hangs on whether President Donald Trump’s administration helps fully implement the deal it helped broker, a senior Qatari official said.

“We believe that the US role in this is paramount, and it's very difficult to maintain the implementation without the US being part of the process,” Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed al-Ansari told Al-Monitor from his office in Doha.

The three-stage agreement aims to bring a permanent end to the war that's killed more than 47,000 Palestinians across the Gaza Strip as well as return the remaining hostages that Hamas seized during its Oct. 7 assault on Israel.
