WASHINGTON — The family of Austin Tice said they have credible new information indicating the journalist who disappeared more than a decade ago in Syria is still alive.

"There is no doubt about that,” said his mother, Debra Tice, attributing the information to a “significant source” she said was vetted by the US government.

Tice’s father, Marc Tice, said the source indicated that as recently as earlier this year, his son was “alive and being cared for.”

“We are confident that this information is fresh,” he said, adding that the family has received various tips about Tice's whereabouts over the years, but “this is very different.”
