France, Morocco ink over $10B in deals during Macron visit

France and Morocco signed around $10 billion euros ($10.8 billion) in deals across sectors such as renewable energy, transportation, infrastructure and sports, and held a joint business summit in Rabat during a visit by French President Emmanuel Macron this week.

King Mohammed VI welcomed Macron to Morocco on Monday as part of a three-day visit by the French president in which around 20 deals were agreed upon.

At a joint press conference in Rabat on Monday, both leaders announced joint investments across several industries, including funding for the expansion of Morocco’s high-speed rail network, which the country plans to extend to Marrakech ahead of hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup, The Associated Press reported.

Macron was on the charm offensive, accompanied by a delegation of French ministers and business executives including Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau, Economy Minister Antoine Armand and Culture Minister Rachida Dati, who is of Moroccan descent.
