Iran's security arrests mother of Armita Garawand as teen still lies in coma
Just days after her daughter fell into a coma after reportedly being attacked by morality police officers, Shahin Ahmadi was arrested by security forces and taken to an unknown location.
Iran’s security forces have arrested the mother of Armita Garawand, who has been in a coma since Sunday after reportedly being beaten by the country’s notorious morality police on a Tehran subway.
The Norway-based Iranian Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, which monitors abuses in Iranian Kurdistan, reported Thursday that Shahin Ahmadi was “violently” detained by security forces late on Wednesday near the Fajr Hospital in Tehran, where her 16-year-old daughter has been kept under heavy security.
The rights group said Ahmadi’s whereabouts are now unknown.
The official Iran news agency IRNA denied the news. In a post on the X platform, the agency blamed unidentified elements for spreading rumors about Garawand for personal gain.
