No indication Iran has softened position on nuclear probes, US says
As those involved in the stalled nuclear talks converge at the UN General Assembly, a senior US official says Tehran is 'doubling down' on its position.
NEW YORK — Iran's position on the stalled nuclear talks appears unchanged following meetings between Iranian officials and European leaders on the margins of this week's United Nations summit, a senior State Department official said Thursday.
"In a nutshell, we’ve hit a wall because of Iran’s position,” the official told reporters on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
“There's been nothing this week that has indicated they are prepared to change,” the official said. “What we’ve seen is a doubling down on their position.”
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi arrived in New York City on Monday with a delegation that included chief Iranian nuclear negotiator Ali Bagheri Kani and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.
