CAIRO — Egypt’s first center dedicated to teaching and preserving oriental dancing as an authentic Egyptian art and heritage opened its doors in Cairo June 30.

The Taqseem Institute was founded by Egyptian belly dancer Amie Sultan.

“The institute has succeeded in strengthening its presence as a cultural institution, the only dance school in Egypt recognized by an international organization,” Sultan told Al-Monitor.

Mustafa Farouk, the Taqseem Institute media official, told Al-Monitor that the institute is the first academy for teaching oriental dance arts in the world that is specialized in presenting a true image of this form of art, with the help of a team of academic and Arab music professors.
