The United Arab Emirates (UAE) recorded its highest daily number of COVID-19 cases in two months on Monday.

The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention reported that there were 541 new coronavirus cases recorded on Monday. This is the highest figure in a single day since the 683 cases recorded on July 5, according to Reuters. For comparison, there were 362 cases detected on Sunday, according to the ministry.

The UAE instituted strict lockdowns and introduced among the most expansive testing programs to mitigate the virus. The fatality rate from the virus has been remarkably low. Residents testing positive are hospitalized and treated immediately.

The government started easing restrictions incrementally in April. Dubai is now open to the point that it is encouraging tourists to visit, provided they test negative for COVID-19.
