Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah has kept silent ever since the fall of Najib Mikati’s government and the appointment of Tammam Salam [as the new Lebanese prime minister]. This silence has raised many speculations. Some believe that it's because Iran is preoccupied by presidential elections in June. Therefore, it has not been available to address L'anese domestic affairs, especially given the showdown that has been taking place between Ayatollah Khamenei and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

However, a photo that has been published online showing Khamenei and Nasrallah together has proved these allegations to be false. In fact, Hezbollah has acknowledged that the two men met in Tehran two weeks ago and reviewed the situation in Lebanon, Syria and the region. Hence, the silence of Hezbollah’s secretary-general is intentional and not due to a “lack of direction” on the part of Iran.

Sources close to Hezbollah explain the party’s silence comes as part of its “wait and see” attitude in the meantime, especially regarding the Syrian file. In this regard, one should say that apparently, despite all the efforts of those who support the Syrian opposition, the latter is losing ground against the regime of Bashar al-Assad.

The data in Hezbollah's possession allows the party to assume that a compromise is imminent between Russia, Iran and countries within the same circle of influence on the one hand, and the US and its allies on the other. This compromise should materialize during the summit to be held on June 1, between US President Barack Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Each side seeks to play its trump card in the anticipated negotiations. However, according to Hezbollah’s sources, should one of the two camps believe it would be at a disadvantage, the summit may very well be postponed.
