TEL AVIV — With only three months until the Oct. 27 elections, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is trying to prepare the public for the possibility of Israel re-joining the US military campaign against Iran, Israeli political sources told Al-Monitor.
As he plummets in the polls, Netanyahu is attempting to justify reopening the Iranian front, a move the security establishment would rather avoid, the sources argued. They pointed to reports on the Mossad uncovering an Iranian espionage ring and on Iran moving thousands of centrifuges into Pickaxe Mountain, saying Netanyahu and his associates are using leaks and releases to sway public opinion.
The push is expected to top the agenda during Netanyahu's visit to Washington on Monday. He is scheduled to meet US President Donald Trump on Tuesday, his office said.
