‘No bridges, no power plants’: Trump ups threats against Iran if deal fails
President Trump said he wasn't worried that striking civilian infrastructure could amount to war crimes.
WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump on Monday doubled down on his threats to destroy all of Iran's bridges and power plants, while dangling the prospect of a last-minute deal with the country's leaders.
“The entire country can be taken out in one night, and that night might be tomorrow night,” Trump said at a White House news conference, during which he also described Iran as “an active, willing participant” that appeared to be negotiating with the United States in “good faith.”
Trump spoke shortly after Iran publicly rejected the mediators’ latest proposal for a 45-day ceasefire to halt the war, now in its sixth week.
“We're giving them till tomorrow, eight o'clock Eastern time, and after that, they're going to have no bridges, [and] they're going to have no power plants,” Trump said.
