Russia has aided Iran’s targeting US military in Gulf: Officials
Satellite imagery is believed to have assisted Iran in its planning attacks on US military assets.
WASHINGTON — Russia has fed intelligence to Iran in a bid to assist in its planning of drone and missile attacks on US military assets across the Middle East, two sources familiar with the matter told Al-Monitor.
US intelligence has assessed that Iranian strikes on sensitive American military assets in the region may have been facilitated by Russian intelligence, the sources said, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive assessments.
At least some of Russia’s targeting assistance to Iran has been sourced via satellite imagery, one of the sources said. However, they did not specify whether there was any causal relationship between the shared intel and any successful Iranian strikes over the past week.
Iranian projectile weapon attacks, largely ballistic missiles and drones, have targeted military and civilian sites in a dozen countries since the United States and Israel initiated the current war against the Islamic Republic on Feb. 28, Pentagon officials said Thursday.
